Building Better Bassists Workshop

July 21-24, 2026

Our Building Better Bassists Workshop is designed for string teachers whose primary instrument is not double bass. This hands-on workshop focuses on learning solid foundations and strategies based on current bass pedagogy so you can help your bass students be successful. Taught by Andrew Goins, a classroom orchestra director for 19 years who now maintains a successful private lesson studio and professional performance schedule.

Topics will include posture and position, bow hold (both French and German), left hand technique, and sequencing. Teachers will learn hands-on at a bass, with a schedule designed to allow plenty of time for individual attention and time to ask questions. GREAT FOR TEACHERS WORKING WITH ALL LEVELS!

TDBA is a TEA approved CPE provider! All workshop participants will receive a certificate to confirm your 12 hours of CPE credit at the conclusion of the workshop.

Location

The workshop will be in-person at the Ben Barber Innovation Academy in Mansfield ISD, in the orchestra rehearsal suite. Registered participants will receive detailed access instructions prior to the workshop.

Materials Needed

Workshop participants will be provided with a packet of materials, and are welcome to bring your preferred method of note-taking. ALL participants will need an instrument and bow. Stools will be available, or you are welcome to bring your own.

BASS RENTAL OPTION: participants have the option of renting a bass from the host facility for $20 total. Please indicate on the registration form if you wish to add this option.

Cost

Total cost for the workshop is $250. Participants will receive instructions for payment via Venmo or Zelle after registration. Other options can be considered on an individual basis. Refunds for cancellation will be possible provided someone on the waiting list is able to take your spot.
